Scrawl Me: Facts Are Motivations...

Okay, so this week I figured I would do a little something different. It’s still a “Scrawl Me”, but this one is more about the characters in AOC. What do I mean?

Howsabout one fact about each character that isn’t in the novel nor in the character bios cuz you know what? Not every character gets a bio. Sometimes my mind does little side character traits/facts that help me iron out something as simple as dialogue or as intricate as to why that person was mentioned in the first place. I’m not sure where I saw it or how the quote goes, but I read somewhere that every character, even those in passing, should always want something, even if it’s just a glass of water. Now that the explanation is out of the way, facts, facts, FACTS…

*** Z: In her original timeline, Z is adopted and not only is she adopted, she’s one of eight siblings which is why she’s so protective of her chosen family. She knows what it’s like to be chosen. In her eyes, it’s a huge deal

*** Toilyn: She’s actually smarter than Z though she always behaves as if this isn’t true. Truth is, Toilyn could easily be a higher up, but that would mean leaving Z behind... A decision she would never make

Oh, bonus fact… Her relationship with Tessa, though in the prohibition era, is handled like any other relationship. She visits Tessa in real time, meaning she doesn't overlap days or double up so that Tessa can experience their relationship as is

*** Jan: He was divorced in his original timeline which is why he’s wary of a real connection be they friend or otherwise

*** Juniper: Her gift of feeling/seeing future events is effected by her emotions so she tries to keep her mind at peace

*** Gillian: As not only the first female, but the last of her bloodline, Gillian created the goggle system. Before this, time traveling used to be done through a portal system created by her great, great, great, (However many greats it takes to get you there) grandfather. Many, many lives were lost due to the original system

*** Rurick: Has depression that no one talks about

*** Bateman: Has a daughter that he has never met

*** Dax: Never learned to love. His upbringing was rooted in toxicity. It manifests itself in how he handles the people around him. He is always playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers

*** Suri: Has rose colored glasses syndrome... Blinded by love. She does what is asked of her because she's convinced she wants these things even though her true reason for becoming the mother of Noir was abandoned long ago

*** Brie: Wants to forgive Z, but every time she sees her, the anger she harbors flares up again. Her yearning to forgive is what keeps her from killing Z

Welp, that about wraps it up. From a creative standpoint, bringing characters into this world is an experience in itself. Sometimes they end up having motivations and experiences that you didn't envision for them.

Over time, it can feel as if their lives amble on without you. It's like you're writing, but THEY'RE LIVING.

PS: I need to get back to work posting character profiles. I'm slacking
